Jo Ann Fawcett, age 79, passed away peacefully on November 14. She was born October 6, 1938 in Luling, Texas to Braswell and Alice Lee Boozer. She graduated from Tomball High School as class Valedictorian in 1956. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she met her husband Barry Fawcett. They were married in Tomball, Texas and moved to Dallas where she eventually graduated from SMU. She and Barry lived in Dallas while he attended medical school. She taught school in the Dallas and Fort Worth School districts. They later moved to Colleyville, where their 2 sons were raised and they remained for the next 44 years. She was very active in the community, including Oak Crest Woman’s Club, school volunteer in Grapevine and Colleyville, and participant in Tennis Competitors of Dallas. She was a frequent volunteer for women with breast cancer. As a survivor, she was able to lend compassionate support to others. She had many hobbies including two book clubs, golf, birding, gardening and bridge.
She and Barry enjoyed their travels to many places including Africa, Australia, Peru, Machu Picchu, and the Galapagos Islands. Most of all, she enjoyed being “Nana” to her 6 grandchildren.
A longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Hurst, Jo Ann was devoted to Christ, her family and her friends. She lived her life as an example to others, bravely facing any physical challenges that came her way through the years. She will be dearly missed and will be remembered for her kindness, gentleness, selflessness, and delicious apple pies!
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Barry Fawcett, sons Mike and David Fawcett, daughter in law Jill Toups Fawcett, grandchildren Cameron, Luke, Zach, Maeve, Aidan and Decklan. She is also survived by sister in law Juliet Fawcett Jelinek and husband Frank, niece, Alyssa Jelinek Melton and nephew, Frank Jelinek Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sister Linda Lee Boozer.
A memorial service honoring Jo Ann will be held on November 28 at First United Methodist Church of Hurst, TX at 3:00 pm. Burial and graveside service will be at Johnson City Masonic Cemetery November 17 at 10 am.
