Joan (Bona) Houtz Galloway, 81, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at Winchester Medical Center on May 30, 2022. Joan spent her childhood in McLean, Virginia before relocating to Sterling, Virginia, where she raised her four children. She later moved to Berkeley Springs, West Virginia for a period of time.


Joan is survived by her four children, Von Jenkins (Dana) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Shane Galloway of Sterling, Virginia, Kristi Donitzen (John) of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and Scarlet (Cardy) Leach of Martinsburg, West Virginia. She had twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters, Charlotte Graber, Scarlet Lovell and Wanda Hayes.


Joan is predeceased by her parents, Edward McKee Houtz and Evelyn Lee Houtz, her brothers, Mike Houtz, Edward Houtz, Charles Houtz and her dear brother-in-law, Fred Lovell as well as three nephews.


The family will be having a Celebration of Life/Picnic at Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling, Virginia on July 2nd from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. In Joan's honor, feel free to wear your favorite red outfit! Please feel free to reach out to any of Joan's children for more information.

I've known Joan since I was a teenager. She has always been the greatest friend I could ever have. Blessings and prayers to all the family.

I'll never forget my Joanie I met her when I was 14 she was so kind and caring and treat me like one of her kids she would do anything for anyone so kind hearted I loved her so much always called her momma Joanie..I'll always remember her saying oh darling every time I would make her breakfast and coffee and her saying when is coopie coming to stay with us to her daughter Cardy. I'm still trying to process it all just doesn't seem really and I miss u every day like crazy but I know your in...

I remember you when I was a kid. You were very kind. I know you are in peace now and you will be watching after all your children. Rest in Peace and God Bless
