AGE: 88 • Pelican Island
Joan V. Christie age 88 of Pelican Island passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21st.
She was a teacher at Seaside Heights Elementary School for over 25 years before retiring and was the owner of Christie's Cotton Candy on the Casino Pier for more than 40 years.
Joan volunteered at Ocean Harbor House, Toms River. She loved to travel and enjoyed Ballroom dancing, the theatre and concerts on the beach.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 1967. Surviving are her daughters Barbara Christie, and Elizabeth Dugan, her husband Jim and her brother Lloyd Vela. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren Joseph, Jayson, Alexa, Saujan and 2 great grandsons Gavin and Lincoln.
A celebration of Joan's life will be Saturday February 25th from 12 to 3 pm with a funeral service at 2:30 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Rd. Toms River. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution in her memory to Oceans Harbor House, 808 Conifer St., Toms River, NJ 08753.

Ms Christie was my 4th grade teacher in seaside 1990 thru 1991. Thank you for all you did to teach us. May you rest in peace. My mother passed in 94 but the teachings from class will always be remembered. I graduated with a BSN and now I am a RN supervisor. I always wanted to thank Ms. Christie for all she did. May your family be comforted with knowing she was an excellent teacher who put her students first and believed in them.
