Brooklawn Funeral Home - Rocky Hill Obituary

Joan Elaine Corbat passed away peacefully on July 7, 2021. Joan was born in Bristol, CT to the late Hellen and Joseph Marsh. She was 85. Joan was known as Mom, Sister, Granny, Gigi, and so many who called her a Friend.

Joan was a dedicated employee of GEMS Sensors until her proud retirement in 1998, while also raising her three sons. She was an accomplished cook and baker, making a new friend any time she acquired a new recipe. Joan leaves behind a well-organized, extensive recipe collection. Joan will be celebrated each time her family makes one of her personally perfected recipes, including strawberry rhubarb pie and potato salad.

She enjoyed traveling with her family to places including Walt Disney World, Hampton Beach NH, California, and Paris, as well as time spent ice fishing in Vermont. Joan had a quiet strength and determination. She had a talent for saying so much without saying anything at all. Joan will be remembered for her style and grace, and for her kindness.

Joan is survived by her son Robert Corbat and his husband Dennis Greenblatt of Milford, CT; her son Steven Corbat of St. Petersburg, FL; her sister Marion Gallnot and her husband Al Gallnot of Southington, CT; and her daughter-in-law Linda Corbat of Bristol, CT. Joan is also survived by her grandchildren Diana Tobio and her husband Constantino Tobio, Jr. of Hamden, CT; Laura Schiavone and her husband James Schiavone of Collinsville, CT; Megan Corbat and her husband Jules Strahl of Atlanta, GA; and Jessica Malla and her husband Steven Malla of Saint Petersburg , FL, as well as her great-grandchildren Morgan, Oliver, and Sebastian Tobio; Benjamin and Anthony Schiavone; and Eli Malla.

Joan was predeceased by her brother Frank Marsh of Sandusky, OH, and her son Joseph Corbat of Palm Bay, FL.

A memorial service is planned for 1pm-3pm on August 14, 2021 at Brooklawn Funeral
Home in Rocky Hill, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
