JOAN COSTA Joan Costa, age 76, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, August 31, 2013. Joan is survived by her daughter, Caryn (James) Kennedy; sons: Timothy Costa and Stephen Costa; grandchildren: Zachary and Carly Kennedy, Brittany (Mark) Cogdill, and Stephanie Costa; great grandchildren: Kyle, Luke, and Olivia Cogdill; sisters: Marilyn (William) Quasney and Ruth (Lance) Dodson; brothers: Larry (Jacquline) Grodzicki and Andrew (Eva) Grodzicki; brother- in-law, Louis (Elaine) Costa; numerous nieces and nephew, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Pauline Grodzicki; husband, John Costa; and son, Gregory Costa. Joan was a loving, kind, thoughtful mother, dear grandmother, special sister, and friend. Each child and grandchild held a special place in her heart. She had the most beautiful eyes and an incredibly memorable radiant smile! After running Foolish Pleasures in downtown Highland successfully for over 20 years, she enjoyed her retirement with John. Joan loved all the friends she had made through her business and was a member of the Highland Chamber of Commerce, Munster Women’s Club and BP Annuitants Club. Joan never said the word “No” where volunteer help of any sort was needed. John and Joan were well known throughout the community, especially attending their grandchildren’s school and sporting events. It made her laugh to be known as the grandparents with the great lawn chairs. She spent many a holiday at “the cottage” where she loved the cooking, shopping, road trips to the ice cream shop, and the special family memories shared. We will all miss her special touches, warm heart and that beautiful smile. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 12:00 noon DIRECTLY at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8501 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN with Rev. Michael Yadron officiating. Private burial will take place at St. John/St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends may meet with the family DIRECTLY at the church on Friday, from 11:00 AM until the time of services. View directions and/or sign guestbook at www.GeisenFuneralHome.com or contact 219-663-2500.

Both my mom and I send condolences to the entire family. My parents enjoyed both your mom and dad.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Roger and I were greatly saddened to learn of Joan's death.
Joan was one of the loveliest ladies we have ever known. Her kindness and thoughtfulness to others will always be remembered. God rest her and keep her. God bless her family, too! She was truly a gentlewoman in every aspect of her life.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss! I remember her as a very sweet, kind, beautiful lady. I am praying for you.

at Walgreen's just months before John passed. They are together again..May they rest in peace.
