Joan meant so much to me both as a friend and as a keeper of SMU's history. I always looked forward to our afternoon meetings in DeGolyer / Fondren Library, where we had many wonderful conversations over dusty relics from bygone eras.....few other people, if any, found so much joy in the odd curiosities of the past.

Craig, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Joan's passing. My favorite memory of her was when you two came to downtown Denver and Joan quickly said "I need ethnic food"! She was truly a treasure. All my love, Elaine Schmeling

I am so very sorry to find out that Joan is gone. We were friends at Juniata College and through reunions and Facebook and Instagram in the years since. It truly hurts my heart. My deepest condolences to her husband and other family and friends.

It hurts my heart to read this news. Joan was a wonderful co-worker while at JCPenney. Our friendship rolled on for many years after. She taught me so much about the JCP archives and then on to the SMU archives. She supported me through all the ups and downs life naturally gives us. She introduced me to the art of Asian dining and eating the crispy skin of a roasted turkey. Yes, we did that in her kitchen and loved it! She taught me the art of rubber stamping. I felt so special to have been...

I was stunned to see Joan in yesterday's Dallas Morning News Obituaries. Joan and I used to be rubberstamping friends. We went to the Grapevine convention together. I join her at her house along with Sarah, and we had such fun playing with and experimenting with stamping techniques. I also drove Joan nuts by doing unexpected weird things with the supplies, but we laughed a lot. I hadn't seen Joan for many years, but I was glad to know her. I am so sorry this delightful woman is gone from us....
