Not sure what to say?

I hiked with Joan in the 1970's and early 1980's and found her one of the most pleasant, friendly, happy and cheerful people I have ever met. I have thought of her many times over the subsequent years and I will always have fond memories of her. She was truly a good person and a wonderful Mountaineer. If there are mountains where she is now, I know she is singing while hiking through the wildflowers in the high meadows. She will be sadly missed by all her Mountaineer friends.

To Betty, Gene, Valerie, and Claudia,

I just learned this morning of Joan's passing. She was one of those rare people, like Evan was, that when you meet them, a little extra spirit and purpose come into your life. And when they leave, a little of life's joy seems to go with them. But the memories of them and the influence they had on our lives will be with us always. So to Joan I say, "Thank You and Godspeed Dear Friend, Give Evan A Hug When You See Him."

Dear Claudia and Family,

I didn't know your Mom, Claudia, but I remember how fondly you and Mian always spoke of her. I'm sure she will be truly missed and lovingly remember. Love to you and your family...

I had the distinct pleasure and honor to have known Joan Groom. She was a gentle, caring soul who welcomed me into her home and family. I was also fortunate to have once hiked with Joan at Carbon Glacier, an experience I will never forget. Her love for nature and for life was obvious in her every gesture. She was a true treasure.

I want to thank all of you for your love and support! My name is Sarah Lyons, and Joan Groom is my Grandmother. She did live a vibrant life, full of love and happiness. She sang like an angel, and I know that she is currently starring in the Heavenly Choir, and climbing the highest mountain possible up there in Heaven.

Joan was everything the excellent notice in the Tribune says, plus she was sociable, a warm and generous hostess in her home.
Hundreds of Mountaineers will remember her for her graciousness and smiling presence. This is a loss to our Mountaineer family, but we share wonderful memories.
