Joan L. Hintzsche
Joan L. Hintzsche 88, of Sycamore IL passed away December 1, 2021, at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb IL. She was born March 19, 1933, in Aurora, IL and was the daughter of Zerrell and Florence (Goist) Lockwood.
Joan graduated from Plainfield High school in 1951. She married Richard Hintzsche on November 24, 1951 in Plainfield, IL. Joan was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church. Joan’s life was dominated by two family businesses. First, was Lockwood Dairy, a family business that was started in 1910. Later, Hintzsche Feed and Grain that was founded in 1962 by her husband Rich and his brother Ken Hintzsche. Due to the time demands of the family business, Joan was charged with many of the household and child rearing duties. This was not an easy task with this rambunctious group of 5 on their Hinckley, IL grain and livestock farm.
Joan was a great cook, baker, and homemaker. She was particular with her “stuff”, as no scratch went unnoticed. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. Joan was blessed with 15 Great Grandchildren. When Madison, who was the first great grandchild could not pronounce “Great Nana”, it came out “Grape Nana”; it stuck, and she was Grape Nana with the whole family from then on.
The family always made time for their summer lake vacations. First on Lake Delavan Wisconsin, then several decades at Cass Lake, Minnesota. Finally on Big Crawling Stone Lake in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. She loved to mow with her John Deere tractor. They also enjoyed winters on the lake and they were avid snowmobilers long into their senior years. After Rich’s passing in 2003, she continued to spend her summers at the lake, including this year.
Survivors include five children; daughter, Linda Allmon of Crescent, IA, sons; David (Jeryl) of Lodi, WI, Ron (Candy) of Sycamore, IL, Steve (Lori) of Phoenix, AZ and John (Kathy) of Big Rock, IL, 13 Grandchildren; Chad (Tiffany) of Sycamore, IL, Troy (Mary) of Genoa, IL, Mark (Meg) of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, Brian (Kelly) of Roscoe, IL, Jennifer (Ryan) Westphal of Dixon, IL, Jared (Beth) of Chicago, IL, Aaron (Kory) of Pingree Grove, IL, Brad (Cassie) of Poynette, WI, Matt Allmon of Kansas City, MO, Megan Allmon (fiancé Dan Vanatta) of Council Bluffs, IA, Richard, Ben, and Max all of Big Rock, IL, 15 great grandchildren, one brother Jerry (Linda) Lockwood of Lac du Flambeau, WI and several nieces and nephews.
