Rigby Harting and Hagan Funeral Home - Media Obituary

Joan D. Hunsicker (nee Wagner) died peacefully on June 25, 2025 at the age of 93.

Born and raised in Media, PA, Joan graduated from Media High School Class of 1949 and continued her studies at Keystone Business School in Springfield, PA.  She married the love of her life, the late Winfield G. Hunsicker, in 1953. Together they built a house in Lima where Joan lived until moving to Truewood Senior Living in August of 2022.

Joan always considered herself a "Media girl" and was very active in her local community.  She was a member of Media Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was a longtime member of Lima United Methodist Church.  She worked at the March of Dimes in Media for over a decade and later at Granite Farms Estates.

Joan's happy place was her back porch swing.  Known for her sweet tooth, Joan looked forward to cookies after dinner and Haagen Dazs ice cream as a nighttime snack.  She was an avid reader and loved watching the Phillies and the Eagles. Her love for taking pictures affectionately earned her the nickname "the Flasher" at family gatherings.

Joan had a host of lifelong friends.  She enjoyed many years traveling in their motorhome with Peg and Zeb. She cherished her friends from grade school known as the Thursday-Nighters as they would originally meet on Thursday nights taking turns hosting at each other's homes.  Eventually, they would meet each Thursday afternoon at the Riddle Ale House. Also dubbed the Grayheads, these ladies stuck by each other for over 70 years! Thank you for being a friend, Louise, Joan, Maryann, Helen, and Betty.

It was no surprise that Joan continued to make many wonderful friends as a resident at Truewood Senior Living in Glen Riddle. For nearly three years, Joan experienced an independent and safe, caring lifestyle in this community.  She enjoyed many activities including Movie Night, Chicken Soup Group, she was on the Cookbook Crew, and loved chatting with the ladies in the After Supper Club by the fish tank.

In addition to Win, Joan's husband of 48 years, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Dorothy Wilgus (Samuel), Clara Scull (Russell), and Harry Wagner (Mickey).

Joan is survived by daughters: Wendy Hunsicker of Lima, PA and Holly Hunsicker-Kutta (David) of West Chester, PA.

Friends and family are invited to Joan's memorial service at Lima United Methodist Church, 209 N. Middletown Rd., Media, PA on Wednesday, July 2nd at 11 am. There will be a calling in the church from 10-11 am.

In lieu of flowers, Joan would appreciate donations to:

The Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnels to Towers Foundation, or a Veterans charity of your choice.

Not sure what to say?

Joan was my wifes last surviving Aunt. I knew her through the family. Loved her like my own mother. Good woman. Best ever. Miss her so much I can't describe it. We love you Joan.
Chris and Barbara Willey

Joan was such a special person, and I know how much she will be missed. May we all find comfort in the memories we shared and the love Joan left behind.

Very fond memories of our old neighborhood on Oriole Ave. Such a great place to grow up. We had ducks and chickens back then with Sam.
May the memories of you mom carry you thru this sad time.

Mrs. Hunsicker was such a funny and sweet person, with such a kind spirit. I know Heaven will throw open its gates to welcome her. And how happy Mr. H will be to be reunited with her there. Rest in peace, dear lady.

Joan was a tiny fire cracker, she was a sweet but stern woman, you can tell she loves her community, and nothing could ever deterred her away from what she loves. She will be missed dearly.

In loving memory of a wonderful person.
