JOAN ALICE LEISHMAN

I met Joan 40 years ago through my wife Mary Anne, Joan's high school friend. Joan always knocked me out with her brains and moxie and determination... and her humanity. She was the definition of 'one of a kind'.

My sincere condolences. Joan and I never managed to meet in person. As she once put it in a note, our paths only seemed to cross on the radio. But she was a kindred spirit. And a much admired colleague who paved the way for so many others. She will be much missed.

Thandiwe and Lauren, I can´t honestly put into words how wonderful your mom was. We were so lucky to have known her and your whole family. But most of all, with all her brave accomplishments, fighting for those less fortunate, and daring to apply her fierce sense of justice and pure kindness, - basically she was simply a wonderful, beautiful human being that I wish there were more of.
