Joan McEvers of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho passed away October 9, 2009. She was born February 7, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in many cities as her parents searched for work during the great depression. Joan moved to Southern California as a young adult and worked as a checker in a grocery store where she met her soul mate, Dean. Joan and Dean were married in 1958 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Southern California for many years before moving to Dean's home state and Coeur d'Alene in 1977. Joan was a pioneer in the Astrology field. She was a noted author, teacher, counselor and lecturer. She co-authored a series of books titled "The Only Way to Learn Astrology", and was the co-founder of "Aquarius Workshops" and "Aspects" magazine. Her teaching approach was honored internationally and is used in Universities today. She has lectured in Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, and throughout the United States. Joan was known for her positive outlook on life, her selflessness, and her faith that there was good in people. She had a passion for reading, loved to quilt, and was intrigued by anything that challenged her mind. She was the matriarch of "Rustlers Roost Restaurant" and it was her belief that if you worked hard and kept a positive attitude, things would always work out for the best. Joan is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dean McEvers, and her four children and their spouses, Woody and Shannon, Brent and Sheryl, Daren and Terri, and Bridget and Russ. Joan leaves behind nine grandchildren, Heather, Devin, Tia Rose, Chelsea, Caleb, Elijah, Trevor, Jared, and Mikayla, and great grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew. There will be a private service for the immediate family. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene was entrusted with the care of arrangements.
