Joan is my second cousin but she was like a mother to me during a difficult time in my life. She was smart and funny. I will surely miss her.

I remember her as Miss White who taught me in third grade at OLA. I thought she was the prettiest and coolest teacher ever. She lived on my street and would sometimes take pity on me as I made the long trek to school during snowstorms and give me a ride in her Ford Gran Torino while smoking a cigarette.
