South Hadley- Joan C. (Los) Parent, 84, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2024, with her family at her side. A daughter of the late Edward J. and Rhea M. (Page) Los, Joan was born in Chicopee on May 23, 1940 and she graduated from Chicopee High School in 1957. The following year, Joan married the love of her life, George, and began a 65-year journey of love and happiness.
Joan devoted her life to raising her children and making a beautiful, loving home for her family. Through the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, she served as a den mother for the Boy Scouts and a troop leader for the Girl Scouts. Joan loved ceramics and was an avid knitter. Along with her best friend Alice, she would make beautiful sweaters, hats, scarves, socks, blankets and dish clothes. Her favorite meal to cook was Thanksgiving dinner and at Christmas time, the requests for her famous fruitcakes kept her busy in the kitchen. After school snack was always a surprise and an amazing dinner was always ready at 5:00.
A loving wife and mother, Joan is survived by her husband George S. Parent, her son, Michael Parent and his wife, Jody, of Chicopee, her daughter, Juliann Caverly and her husband, Douglas, of Ludlow, and her daughter-in-law, Angela Parent, of Belchertown. Joan also leaves her 8 grandchildren, Brian (Katelyn), Alexis, Noah, Emily, Andrew (Kimberly), Bradley, Steven (Caitlin), and Sarah, her 3 great-grandchildren, Casey, Liliana, and Tyler; as well as a brother, Gerald Los, and her sister-in-law, Beverly Los, of Chicopee. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her son, Gary W. Parent, her sister, Paula Los and her brother Edward J. Los, Jr. Funeral services for Joan will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee. Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours from 9:00-10:15am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial to take place at 11:00am at Ste. Rose de Lima Church. Committal will be held privately at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joan’s name can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
