Joan Bourgeois Philibert, 79, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Slidell.


She was born October 25, 1942 in New Orleans, to the late Herbert J. Bourgeois Sr. and Camilla Keller LeJeune. Loving mother of Amanda Bourgeois Hellwig (Nelson), grandmother of Sarah Joan Hellwig and Nathan Leonard Hellwig, sister of Judith Rizan (Milton), aunt to Troy Rizan (Michelle), Tracie Rizan Bates, Tammy Rizan, Ross Bourgeois and Lucas Bourgeois, and lifelong friend Glenda Drake.


Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Philibert; her step-father, Joseph LeJeune; her brother, Herbert “Sonny” Bourgeois Jr., and her good friend Michael Walsh. 


She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear friends.  A strong, independent woman at a time before it was fashionable, Joan, above all, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren Sarah and Nathan.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell LA 70460, on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association www.heart.org.

Joan was a wonderful and kind person. She and her brother Sonny were like family to my family, the Walshes. Her care of my brother Michael in his final days in hospice at her home is indicative of her generosity and caring. Rest in eternal peace and may you spend eternity reunited with your family.
