Joan was always the friendly teller whose line you wanted to be in at the Barbur Branch of the Multnomah Bank. Her family-by-marriage set the stage for the character of the small bank trusted by so many. My paper route earnings went into a savings account there, and it would another ten years before I needed a checking account. Her smile is etched into my memory.
