I have good memories of Joan as a next door neighbor on Fordham Drive in the '90s. Our friendship continued whether I was in Buffalo or Philadelphia or beyond. That meant alot to me.

Today's service and luncheon were a beautiful tribute to Joan. She made the world a better place and will not be forgotten. Even in their time of sorrow, those closest to Joan were warm and welcoming to the many people at the wake and service.

She was our "Joanie" in the Buffalo Public School's Speech Department. She was our fearless free spirit. Joan was the epitome of a quiet strength underlined by honesty, dignity and respect. A bright light has now gone out--one we can least afford to lose--one we miss terribly already.

Joan was more than a friend for the last 17 years, more than my next door neighbor for 11 years, more than a colleague at School 84 for 8 years.
She gave my daughter Katie the patience, love, attention, encouragement, and understanding to speak. As a speech therapist,Joan did that for 35 years with hundreds of students.
