Burns Funeral Home - Frankford Ave. Obituary

Beloved wife of Edward Scanlon for over 64years. Joan was the loving mother of John, Kathleen Alcaro (Marc), Linda Wilkus (Don), Maureen Scanlon (Harvey) and Heather Golden (Thomas). She was a cherished gran to Nicole, Megan, Francis (Little Frank), Edward, Aiden, Emily, Tommy and the late Francis (Big Frank). She was a proud great-gran to Mackenzie, Madison, Jacob, Paige, Charlie and Gracie. And a great- great gran to Carson.

Dear sister of Claire Dussinger (the late Joseph), Jerry Bannister, and the late Kathrine Bannister, Jack Bannister, Agnes Donnelly (the late Terrance), Frank Bannister (the late Patricia), and Thomas Bannister. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will miss her warmth and wisdom.

Joan enjoyed bowling, was a skilled ceramicist, and a devoted theatergoer who loved musicals and plays. Her greatest joy came from caring for her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren, a role she embraced with boundless love. A devout Catholic, Joan's faith was a constant source of strength for her and her family throughout her life.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 535 Rhawn St, Philadelphia, PA 19111, followed by her Funeral Mass. Interment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on Friday, May 9, 2025. Funeral procession will line up at Burns Funeral Home (9708 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia PA 19114) at 8:45AM and will leave promptly at 9:00AM for Washington Crossings.

Not sure what to say?

Although I only known Joan for a short period of time in the past. She was warm and welcoming and made me feel like I was part of her family. I'm just finding out she passed. I'm sad I did not attend the services. My condolences to her whole family.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Mom.
We all miss you so much sending
you lots of love on your special day.
Make sure Big Frank puts 88 candles
on your cake. Love you, Linda

Dear Family and Friends,
We all are so heartbroken on the loss of this amazing woman.
She was simply the BEST. It's going to be hard for us to carry on
without her, but we will. My family and I have been so blessed to
have shared so many wonderful times with her. She will hold a
special place in all of our hearts forever. Rest in peace Mom.
Love always, Linda

RIP

We always had fun together.

To my dear Aunt Joan, you must be having a good long chat with my mom and dad who were waiting for you. I know God has welcomed you with open arms and said, “Well done Joan, come in”.
