Not sure what to say?

Joan, I am so sorry I missed your later years and more recent passing. We were more than just colleagues at Kellogg Eye Center, but compadres in a close-knit family. I so regret we did not stay connected with you as I moved out of state and started a family. My time with you at Kellogg was one of the most forming of my professional and personal life. I greatly miss you, your sense of humor that so closely matched mine, and your love of life.

We had the pleasure of living on Revena and renting from Joan for two years, and I'm so glad we got to know her in the way we did. She was always thoughtful and kind, whip smart and a pleasure to talk to. I loved walking around the garden with her and enjoying the beautiful space into which she invested so much time and energy. Having grown up in Ann Arbor, some of my favorite memories from my favorite city are from the time that we lived above Joan. Memory eternal.

I have fond memories of Joan when we both worked at the U of M Medical School. She was always a good friend and a very able administrator. I regret I cannot attend the Memorial Service today and send my condolences to Joan's family and friends.

Joan opened her home and heart to us. She was always happy to host a garden party. We'd walk around and see what was blooming. Many wonderful memories. She was kind and caring, a very special woman. This community and people lucky enough to call her a friend will miss her dearly.

She was a beautiful human being, a wonderful woman, a great landlord, and a very good friend. I will miss her more than I can say.

Rest in peace my dear friend. May you always find fair winds and following seas.
