Joan was my 3rd grade teacher. Gosh, such a long time ago, 56 years. She was such a bright light that I still have vivid memories. She moved on to be a great author, mentor, and so much more. I can’t say that her light has been extinguished here on earth. Because she left a beacon of brilliance that will shine forever. She will be missed. To Joan’s family — I had the privilege of knowing Joan for many years. What a constant source of inspiration she was for all of us in education.She never met a book she did not love. Joan was like my Winthrop Mama! We shared a love of Children’s literacy! Book talking and sharing new books was always the highlight of our visits!
