Joan Van Geffen Obituary

Joan Prem Van Geffen, a devout Catholic, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Margaret Prem. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; her parents; her sister, Mother Rose Theresa O.C.D.; and her brother, Larry Prem. She is survived by her 8 children, Kathy (Paul) Scioneaux, Denis (Missy) Van Geffen, Renee (Bill) McAlister, John Van Geffen, Pam Hansen, Paul Van Geffen, Julie (Scott) Mire, Steve (Sheila) Van Geffen. She is also survived by her 24 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren, as well as by her sister, Nancy Holmes, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was an avid bridge player, earning the title of Platinum Life Master. She was also a dedicated Saints fan. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed. Services will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, October 21, with visitation beginning at 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Carmelite Monastery, 49 Mount Carmel Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505-0352.
