Joann Anzia Obituary

Joann Anastasia Anzia of Lakewood, CO passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026 at the age of 89. Her life was a testament to the loving bonds of family and faith.

Born December 9, 1936 to Alois and Josephine Weiland of Port Washington, WI, Joann attended St. Mary Catholic School and cherished her roles as the Virgin Mary in 8th grade and the Belgium Firemen’s Queen in high school.

Shortly after high school, Joann met Robert W. Anzia with whom she shared 38 beautiful years of marriage prior to his early passing on July 5, 1996. It took just one memorable dance to confirm their mutual attraction before marrying on February 8, 1958 in Lake Church, WI. Together they enjoyed backyard BBQs, Friday Fish Frys and community bowling leagues. But it was their Catholic faith that became a cornerstone of their marriage and the foundation of a desire to raise a family.

Joann and Bob began their family in Thiensville, WI before Bob’s career as a Civil Engineer at HNTB brought them to Denver, CO in 1974. They loved their new life near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains where the family enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially camping and hiking.

Joann and Bob are survived by their five children: Thomas W. (Stephanie) Anzia, Jean M. Anzia, Michael S. Anzia, Kay E. (Richard) Flierl and Lynn A. (Dennis) Holmes, 10 grandchildren: Michael (Jess), Mitchell, Megan, Elise, Ethan, Braden, Andrew, Tanner, Kalyn (Dylan Johnston) and Benjamin along with seven great-grandchildren: Riley, Luke, Alexandra, Daisy, Gianni, Luca, and Nikko. Above all else, Joann cherished her role as mother as it was the greatest expression of the deep love she and Bob had for each other.

Joann’s quick wit carried her through many physical setbacks throughout her adult life, but ultimately, she lived by the tenets of faith and humility, recognizing her own limitations, relying on God for faith and hope, and acting in selfless service to her family and community. One of Joann’s greatest outward expressions of this was through crocheting countless beanies for cancer patients and preemies through the groups of St. Jude’s St. Francis Circle, St. Francis Cabrini’s Loving Hands, and Light of the World’s Knit and Crochet, all of Lakewood, CO along with numerous afghans and scarves for family members.

Joann is preceded in death by her husband Bob, her sister Monica (Schmitz) and brother Jim Weiland.

A rosary will be held at 11:00am Saturday, February 21 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9405 W. Florida Ave., Lakewood, CO 80232 with visitation following until 12:30pm. A private burial will be held at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
