Joann Schmidt Obituary

Joann B. Schmidt

Louisville - Joann Burnett Schmidt, 86, of Louisville passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018.

Joann was born on February 8, 1932 in Cooper, TX. A proud Texan, she settled in Louisville where she raised a family and became a successful business entrepreneur. Joann owned the Hodgepodge, one of the early antique and furniture consignment stores located in St. Matthews. This venture would be the beginning of a life-long career as a personal property appraiser. She founded the Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers, became the first female auctioneer in Kentucky and mentored many others who followed her. She also owned and operated Brick Oven Pizza in Plainview with her late husband, Fred K. Schmidt, Jr. Joann loved traveling, dancing and listening to classic country music.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Fred K. Schmidt , Jr.

Joann is survived by her children, Michael Coffman, Fred Schmidt III (Jeanette), Holly Schmidt (Dean) and a cherished granddaughter, Sylvia. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to those who cared for and were very special to Joann, including the wonderful staff at Magnolia Springs and Kelly Vaughn, dance instructor at Dance Louisville.

Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 12-3 pm and 5-8pm on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. A graveside service to celebrate Joann's life will be conducted at 12 noon on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4400 Bardstown Rd with interment to follow.

Remembering Aunt Ann during these turbulent times in our country. She was a conservative and kept up with the political news. We would have a lot to talk about right now. Wish she was here to support our President and have a chat with her niece about the coming election. Can't believe it's been almost 2 years now that she's been gone. Love you Aunt Ann! Theresa

It has almost been a year now since we lost Aunt Ann. I still have a voice message from her on my phone and I smile whenever I hear it. She always made me laugh with her wit. I wish I could go back to the 1950's & 60's again and watch the fun of the Burnett clan getting together for family reunions. There was lots of good food and lots of laughter at these family events and I miss all the ones who are no longer with us. I can see them again seated at the Loerch kitchen table playing penny ante poker, laughing and having a great time. Oh, what wonderful memories Aunt Ann and her siblings left us.

Mike, Fred and Holly - we are remembering the sweet memories of Aunt Ann, your precious mom - the love and laughter, especially. She called me now and then through the years to tell me a joke or two, then asked if I had any new jokes for her - always asked about my family - and Donna's mom - and updated me on the goings on of her family, including her dog and cat. While we grieve with you for your loss, we can also imagine the joyous family reunion going on right now in Heaven - all the family hugs and laughter once again.
Our love and hugs to you, Cousins.

I am sorry that I never had the chance to meet her in person. Her son Mike is a close friend and I am thankful for her to raising such a great human being.

To Ann's family: Oh what fun we had a few years ago when Ann came to Texas to visit cousins and my mother, her Aunt Gladys which was her dad's youngest sister. I am a few years older than Ann as I will be 94 on Saturday. So I knew Ann all of her life, but only got to see her occasionally as we never lived close to each other. We loved her and are sad to hear of her passing. What a lady!

Mike, Holly & Fred, Steve and I were so sad to hear about Aunt Ann's passing and really sad Alzheimer's took her from her family and friends too soon. She always loved being around people and Alzheimer's took that joy from her. You have our deepest condolences on the loss of your mom. We will always remember her wit and her laughter and I can imagine her now laughing with her brothers and sisters. They all knew how to have a good time!
