Not sure what to say?

Joanna, even if you will remain in our hearts for ever, it is fantastic that we have the opportunity to make a stop in our living and refresh ourselves with your memory. Thank you Jackie and family. All the very best of love for you.

Joanna was the "Ambassador and Warrior of Peace and Justice for Everyone". I´ll never forget the first time I attended her cosmopolitan multicultural and happiness dinner and cultural encounter. It changed my way of living and surviving at ISU. Joanna we miss you but your message and vision will be passed along to many generations to come. Your spirit of happiness to fight for justice, equality and for a healthy planet is among us and will remain. Gracias Joanna for introducing me to your...

It is now two years since Joanna passed away. I am signing her book of memories again as per request of colleagues who wish to keep her memory alive. I do it willingly and in awe of the extraordinary person she was and who deserves to be remembered, celebrated, and held as a model of an inspiring human being like she was. We miss you, Joanna Courteau!

Joanna was a beautiful friend to me and my entire family in Ann Arbor. We met her by happenstance and she let my sister and I act in one of her short films. She always had a story, and had a way of being able to engage everyone in the room no matter how different they were from her. I only recently heard of her passing as I no longer live nearby, but I have a lot of love for her and her memory- she is missed , RIP Joanna.

Sad to hear about Joanna death. I met her at Iowa State. She invited me to speak to her Portuguese students and we became friends. I remember her immense energy, her involvement in so many activities and the parties she organized - always loving having people around her. We maintained contact for a while after I returned to Brazil.

Joanna was my mentor when I studied at Iowa State. I learned about the world from her. An intellectual loss.

Joanna's warmth, friendliness and dedication to the promotion of Lusophone studies was patent from the moment one met her. Just knowing she existed was comforting to anyone in the field. A leading light was extinguished when she passed away. RIP Joanna.

I will always remember her kindness and her beautiful smile. A great loss!

Joanna became a valued member of our family upon her marriage to Charlie. We feel especially privileged to have had her as a friend and family member and will miss her greatly.
