Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Shocklee, Joanne (née Rappold), 84, of Chesterfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, where she was received into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Beloved wife of the late David P. Shocklee for 38 years; loving mother of daughters Ann M. (Paul) James, Jane (Patrick) Abbott and Mary Jo Eslick (Sean); cherished grandmother of four: Jessica, Cody, Sophia and Lilly; dear great-grandmother of Julian; sister of Jerome (Sue) Rappold and Tom (Jan) Rappold; sister-in-law of Juanita (the late John) Rappold; aunt, great-aunt, cousin, precious step children and great-grandchildren, dear friend Ron Gore; her Woodsmill and Parkway families and other special lifelong friends.

Joanne was preceded in death by brother Glen Rappold and special friend John MacDonald.

Joanne was as much of a loving mother as she was an encouraging friend. She had a timeless sense of style and class.

She lived her life with a servant’s heart, volunteering to help neighbors and friends whenever they needed support. She embodied the saying, “a friend in need is a friend indeed,” her whole life.

Whether it be supporting her family or co-workers in the Parkway School District running the print shop; volunteering with the American Airlines Kiwi club; helping neighbors with laundry and errands; or bringing a plant to a friend in remembrance of a special day. Joanne genuinely cared about people.

Services: Joanne requested her remains be cremated after her passing. Joanne’s life will be celebrated at Cottle Village Distillery on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Private interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. If desired, contributions can be made to Birthright at - Donate  Birthright or Stephen Ministries.

As a service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

Not sure what to say?

Joanne was a lovely neighbor and friend to us when our kids were little and we were new to the Woodsmill neighborhood. Bill and I and the kids are so sorry for your family’s loss.

Joanne, was my big sister which I truly loved. At times I would call her Bossy Annie because she would help with our mother, Annette, in keeping us younger siblings in line and making sure we helped around the house. When I visited or came into town I always stayed with her at her house or apartment and catch up on our way of life. Joanne, was a good ,helpful, encouraging, and a cool person. I miss my big sister, but I know life goes on and my circle of life is continuing and one day in OUR...

Jane, I am so sorry to hear of your Moms passing. She was a sweet and loving lady. Cherish all the memories of her.

Truly a classy lady. Loved her spontaneous visits after Dor died. More than a loving aunt, a good friend. Will miss her smile. God bless her.

Loving and special memories of my dear friend and neighbor Joanne. Our four years in Woodsmill sub division in St Louis were made welcome by Joanne as soon as we arrived and extended until we moved to Washington, DC.
The friendship we once enjoyed we can never lose, for all that we love deeply become a part of us.
Chantale and Michelle join me in extending our sincerest sympathy to Ann, Jane and MaryJo.
Thank you Jane for your loving care these final years.
Diana...

My sincere sympathy on the loss of your mother, grandmother, relative and friend. Joanne was a remarkable woman who was always very loving and kind. I remember her fondly. She lived in Woodsmill Subdivision across the creek from me. She will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of my cousin Joanne. Anytime we had a family reunion, we could count on Joanne to have a big smile along with her kind and welcoming personality.
Sending blessings and prayers

A dear friend who was always there for you. Love you and miss you.

Joanne was such a sweet lady. We were so happy that our dad, Ron Gore, was able to enjoy such a loving a friendship with your mother. We were so sorry to hear about her illness and passing. We send you and everyone who knew and loved Joanne our deepest sympathies. Many blessings to you all.
