JoAnne was a truly good person. Her accomplishments are many; from bringing 3 wonderful children into the world to her dedication to academic excellence. She has been an inspiration to scores of women needing encouragement to resist being stereotyped as somehow less qualified based on gender alone. She challenged societal norms.
It is hard to imagine not having her a phone call away. She will be remembered for all the times we shared.

A traveler, scientist and lover of culture, JoAnne extended her love, knowledge and appreciation of life to all she met. She, as I, was introduced to a special love for France early on through a year abroad with the Sweet Briar College Junior Year in France, a bond that brought us together in our old age. My fond thoughts go to her family in their loss.

As a sister-in-law, I will especially miss the friendship we shared over so many years. We share the sadness and loss felt by all those who loved...
