On November 1st , 2020 we lost our Mother, Wife, Sister and Friend. Joanne Elizabeth Walker, born February 26, 1962, passed away suddenly in her Florida home with her husband at her side.
Daughter of Colleen and Gerry Walker, wife of Dan Lewis, widow of Robert Glen, loving mother to Jarod and Jenelle Glen, and stepmother to Derek Glen, Tim Lewis and predeceased by stepson Daniel Lewis. Survived by her brother Michael, and her sisters Susan, Rose, Maureen, Bonnie, Sharon and Sheila.
Joanne was born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario, as one of the youngest in a family of 8 children. Joanne was a beautiful woman with a smile and a laugh that could light up a room. She was an absolute firecracker with a passion for life, and fun. These qualities, paired with her charisma and magnetic personality, caused people to gravitate to her wherever she went. To say the least, she easily made friends and was fabulous at keeping in touch with all of them in Fonthill, Welland, St. Catharines, Tampa, St. Louis, and Kentucky.
Joanne was firm in her beliefs, but that was arguably one of her best qualities. Jo was not only a great party planner and organizer, but she was a great host, entertainer and storyteller. She thrived as a social butterfly, had a way of captivating an audience, and truly loved being surrounded by family and friends. She was an amazing cook and everyone loved her signature spaghetti sauce, chili, and meatloaf (to name a few). However, she often turned a fridge full of leftovers into the tastiest, gourmet soup. She also had a green thumb and always took pride in maintaining her beautiful gardens.
Although she loved her native Canada, she hated the cold weather and since 2012 she has spent her winters in Florida with a home at the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club. Joanne was an excellent golfer and also has been enjoying Pickle Ball the last few years. For many years, Joanne was a great softball player who batted clean up. She was always ready for a trip to the beach, but also spent much of her life skiing on the slopes as well.
Jo was lucky to have to have found love twice. She met Bob Glen when she was young and they had 27 wonderful years together and raised Derek, Jarod and Jenelle into lovely adults. Devastated by her loss, Joanne was surprised by love again with Dan Lewis. Dan and Joanne loved spending time at Kentucky Lake at their summer lake house and on their boat.
Joanne was a believer of Jesus Christ. She was raised attending the St. Alfred Catholic Church in St. Catharines. More recently, Dan and Joanne would attend the Journey Church while in Murray, Kentucky and Bridgewater Church while in Tampa, Florida.
Joanne E. Walker's funeral arrangements will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home (11441 US HWY 301, Dade City, Florida 33525) from 12:00pm to 3:00pm for a Remembrance Gathering; and the Memorial Service officially begins at 3:00pm.
