The year after graduation our class of 74 played the class of 58 in the Murray High School Alumni Tournament. I was enough younger than Joe that I had never really heard of him. I have had the honor of working with Joe for many years at the Department of Corrections. I was a Training Coordinator when he was the Director. I learned a great deal from him that I have used in my career. He was a great example and mentor. One of the funny things I remember about Joe was he did not like to work on Friday the 13th. He will be missed not only by me, but many other.

I went to school with Joe and worked with him at the Sheriff's Office for many years. Joe was a cut above everyone else. He assisted my family when it mattered most he will be missed. I won't be able to attend God bless and attended to a great family. Bruce Thayne Capt. retired

I have so many wonderful childhood memories of Joe and his family! Joe and my father, George (Juddy) Nielsen were the greatest of friends for over 60 years!! The last years of my father's life they spoke almost daily, their friendship meant the world to my dad. Joe was a giant of a man and a true friend!! My thoughts, love and prayers go out to his family!!
