Not sure what to say?

Barbara and family,
I have such wonderful memories of being in choirs beginning when Joe came to FBC. He spoiled me forever in how a choir director should be - dedicated to the Lord and His direction, gifted musically, but more interested in his choirs worshipping and leading others in worship than in performing well. Choir tours, practices, friendships, growing in my own relationship with the Lord - how much he influenced us in all the right ways! I have a grateful heart to the Lord for...

It was such a privilege to have Joe at First Baptist in my formative singing years (my favorite was the white smock & big maroon bow) and for him to bless us again in his retirement. It was wonderful to have the chance for him to lead us again on Sunday morning for a few times too. He now has strength to sing all the time. Mother sends her love and prayers as well.

Joe Carrell was a blessing throughout my teen years. I remember choir tours. But the best memory was that he sang at my wedding in 1990. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Joe Carrell's legacy of ministry and service through church music has spanned the state and nation through his own ministry and his influence continues through the life of his son, Stephen, currently music minister at FBC San Antonio. His encouragement to our music ministry, and to Stephen as he grew into his calling, will be greatly missed by us. May God's presence bring comfort and peace to his loved ones in this time of goodbyes. In His love,

I was blessed enough to have Joe lead whatever choir I was in from the 4th grade through my freshman year at TJC. My family joined FBC Tyler in 1958 when Dr. Shamburger and Joe came. So much of my love and appreciation of music came from Joe, and his relationship with God through music changed the lives of all of us youth. We have had reunions of Chapel choir and it is a testimony to Joe how many people came from all over to fill the choir loft because of those special years we shared with...

We sang together in the Southwestern Singers and stayed friends in ministry through the years. I will miss him here but look forward to singing with him in the Heavenly Choir. Malcolm Grainger, Boerne, Texas

I cannot hear, sing, or even think of "Sweet, Sweet Spirit" without thinking of Joe T. and Barbara. I cannot imagine the world without him. But now I know God's Choir has the best director. We will all sing together again when we meet in heaven.

I loved Joe and appreciated all the Choir tours he took us on and all the youth choir practices and all of the kindness that he extended to me always as a teenagers at Hyde Park Baptist. I will always remember him and his amazing service and love for Jesus. Stephen ...I loved your dad and he meant the world to me as a young person. Lea Turner Whatley

I guess GOD needed the best to lead the choirs in Heaven. He truly made me who I am with GOD today. I will always remember the trip to Penn. with the youth choir at Hyde Park. On the way home, My sister Kay, and I decided to try and form a Girls quartet. We were trying to keep it quiet but Joe T. came running down the aisle asking "What boy is singing that bass?" My face was totally red to admit it was me, Cissi Cearley Wright, but from this, Joe T. started the Peacemakers and yes I sang...
