Not sure what to say?

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Freeland, Joyce, and Lynda. Mr. Freeland was a wonderful man who shared his love of magic with so many of us over the years. His magic show is one of my favorite childhood memories

He was heartwarming. Yes, Joe warmed our hearts. Irrepressibly, he carried us along with his enthusiasms: Baseball, Tigers basketball, John Wills barbecue. Everything was palbably better when shared with Joe. You would have to look far for a more joyous influence in the CA newsroom.

Many thanks to all the people who have expressed their condolences and also to all the many caretakers who made it possible for my father to stay at home with my mother. We value your friendship, devotion, and prayers.

It used to be said by some of us on The Commercial Appeal copy desk, when faced with writing a difficult-sized headline, "If you want a one-column, 36-point, 3-line head, call on Joe Freeland -- he's the magician." What a warm, wonderful, witty and generous man. I'll miss you, my friend.

Joyce, we are thinking about you. May God bless you and the family.

Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.

Dear Joyce and girls, on behalf of Mother and my family, please, accept our deepest sympathies with much love. For (Aunt)Fay Carmack Williams, Susan Williams Phillips and family.

Want to express our condolences to Joyce and the extended family on the death of Joe. Will be keeping all of you in our prayers.

Joe was a sweet and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor. I always enjoyed working with him at the CA. My prayers go out to his family.
