Eisenhour Funeral Home - Blanchard Obituary

Joseph Milton Hughes (Joe) was born on December 21, 1922 and passed away peacefully in his home on April 25, 2021 at 98 years of age surrounded by his loving family and his wonderful caregiver, Susie.

Born to Robert and Nettie Hughes in Negley, Texas, he was the third of seven boys. He grew up on a farm in Southeastern Oklahoma where he developed a strong work ethic which benefitted him throughout his career.  Joe was one of the most talented sheet metal contractors and aircraft mechanics in Oklahoma.  He spent the majority of his career servicing aircraft at Oklahoma City’s Downtown Airpark, but also traveled across the United States working on various special projects related to his profession.  In retirement, he ran Joe’s Lawnmower Shop out of his home in rural Blanchard renovating and servicing lawn and farm equipment for people across the entire Tri-City area.

In 1941, he married Beatrice Burns and they were married for 69 years. They moved to Blanchard, Oklahoma in 1966 where they resided for the remainder of their marriage. Joe is survived by four children-Donna Major, Terry Hughes (LaWanda), Judy Gill, Sandy Cotton (Art), eight grandchildren-Maurice Armstrong (Liz), Tracie Molina, Shelly McPheeters, Jason Hughes, Tara Patton (Ozzy), Jennifer Vernon (Tory), Joshua Miller (Lacey) and Caroline Cotton-Linhardt (James), eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as many sweet friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his very special caregivers, Susie Sexton and Carol Crouch and Oklahoma Palliative and Hospice Care staff – Lisa Combs, Randy Weaver and Jenny Folsom. In addition, we want to recognize his wonderful primary care physician, Dr. Misty Bogle – who he dearly loved!

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard.  Burial will follow in the  Blanchard Cemetery.  Masks are encouraged.  Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.  Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.com.
