Not sure what to say?

We were lifetime friends. It will never be the same to visit Hickory with you not there. You painted, I tried to clean up some, we drank, we laughed, we repeated. I will always treasure those memories and the art. I have had your art on my walls for 40 years. I love you Joe.

I remember when Joe was working at the Ackland Museum and living with Virginia back in the 70s. He was the most committed artist I ever knew.

Joe and I were friends through church. Becky was in my Sunday school class when she was a young girl. I am saddened to learn of his death. We didn't see/talk often, but when we did it was always a delight! Rejoicing Joe, in your eternal birthday and life! ❤

So sorry to hear of his passing and sending well wishes to his daughter Becky.

I made a few journeys with Joe several years ago and they were all magical. We got where we were going although he never had working brakes on the car. Memories of Joe are colorful and filled with spirit. Thank you for these memories, Joe.

Our sincere condolences to friends and family of Joe. He was a great artist and we enjoyed Joe's stories and his big smile. Funny thing about what stands out about my interactions with Joe - he always had wet paint somewhere on him, a smudge on his face, a streak of color in his hair. We'll miss Joe's passion for his work, and are glad to have a few of his Grandfather Mountain paintings to bring back fond memories of our friendship. Terri and Allen Johnson
