Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home Obituary

     Jose Rene Rayos Sr. (Rainy), 84 of Midland, TX passed peacefully on Wednesday November 8th, 2023.

     Rene was born and raised in Marfa, Texas. He then moved to Midland during his late teens and early 20’s. Little did he know after a few yearsof being in Midland, he would meet the love of his life Graciela (Gracie) Veloz. Rene and Gracie married on September 30, 1961.

     Rainy planted roots in Midland and started his own business, “Rene’s Produce.” He was the epitome of a hard worker and did anything and everything to provide for his family. Within his community, Rainy was also a mentor to youth where he coached Eastern Little League Baseball, leading his 1976 team to 4 City Championships. Many in town also know him as “Coach Rainy.”

     Rainy and Gracie have three beautiful children, Jose Rene Rayos Jr., Michael Glenn Rayos, and Laura Lyn Madrid. His children went on to become parents and blessed him with plenty of grandchildren to spoil and love! Rainy gave his children and grandchildren tons of wonderful memories and traditions to pass down from skiing in Ruidoso, watching the Marfa lights, and camping in Fort Davis. Rainy loved his family so much and did all he could to make countless memories with everyone. In his spare time, you could always count on him to cheer on his Dallas Cowboys! To know Rainy is to love Rainy. He never met a stranger and was always the life of the party! Anywhere there was music, he was guaranteed to create his own dance floor! His biggest accomplishment in life will be the legacy both he and Gracie left behind.

     Rainy is survived by his sons Ronnie Rayos, Jose Rene Rayos Jr., Michael Glenn Rayos, and daughter Laura Lyn Madrid. Daughter in law Lourdes Rayos and son in law Henry Madrid all of Midland, TX. 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Sisters, Dorothy Perales, Nancy Peña, Mildred Rodriguez and brother Silverio Rayos.

     Rainy is now in God’s grace and reunited with the love of his life Graciela Veloz Rayos, his parents Raymundo Rayos & Florine Dutchover Rayos, his brother Raymundo Rayos Jr. and sister Erline Stephens.

     A viewing will be held at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home Monday November 13, 2023 from 10am - 9pm with a rosary at 7pm.

     Funeral mass has been scheduled for Tuesday November 14, 2023, 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home.

     Pallbearers will be Ricky Rayos, Jesse Olmedo, Eddie Portillo, Marty Garcia, Frank Juarez & Raul Galindo. Honorary pallbearers are Rocky Rayos, Marcus Rayos and David Rayos.

     The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Focused Care at Midland and Hospice of Midland.

In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same,
It broke our hearts to lose you,

You did not go alone;
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.

Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again

Our sincerest condolences to all the Rayos family. Rainy was a good hearted man and loved by all that he came to know him. We remember when he and Gracie would go to my uncle´s place called the Alamo Ballroom. I remember thinking just how nice they were to everyone. Always carried themselves with so much love towards each other. They always made it a point to come and greeted our mom. They always left her a huge smile on her face. When you ran into him, there was always a huge hug and the...

Growing up through the years, it's beautiful how we never have to see each other daily to have been impacted positively. I have great memories of Tio Rainy, just like dad, always dancing; always with a smile, laughing, and that hug he would always give with so much love, even in my adult years it was the same. I loved how he would see my dad in me, after dad's passing. I have many happy and positive memories of tio.
May prayers and peace be with you Rene, Michael, Laura, and your...
