Such sad news, but tempered with gratitude and good memories. Joe was a giant, lifting up all who were around him, all the while remaining humble, respectful, and kind. A leader whose work helped countless young people across the country and the world. He made a positive difference in all spheres, and is a model for leading with kindness and example. I am grateful for having been blessed to know and learn from Joe, as a student and well beyond. And I am thankful to you, Dottie, for being an...

Dottie, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your beautiful family. I am Betsy Marshall Rock. I knew Joe and Jean Gayle when they lived in Rock Hill. Jean Gayle was in our class at Winthrop Training School for a short period. I have fond memories of them both. Sad to say that those days were my last time of seeing them. I would have loved meeting you and reminiscing with Joe about those short but great days together. Thinking of you during these hard times.

My heart breaks for you Dottie, Doc was a very special one of a kind man. I will never forget his beautiful smile and generous loving heart. Love you and see you soon! Barbara C
