S. Joseph Schloss, age 75, passed peacefully on March 1, 2025. He was a beloved husband of 27 years to Carole Schloss (nee Sturm); dearest father of Stuart Schloss (Rebecca), Shannon Schloss (Tuti) and Tyler Schloss (Angie); loving step-father to Gary Nadeau (Erin), Laura Nadeau and Cynthia Chylik (Brian); loving grandfather of Kory Kostival, Kalli Kostival, Leo Romero, Elizabeth Reeve (Michael), Carl Scott (Blue), Emily Scott, Elise Scott, Nicolas Nadeau, Christian Nadeau, Emmanuelle Nadeau, Avalon Nadeau, Laine Chylik, Jack Chylik, Will Chylik; great grandfather of Jensen, Bennett and Elza; beloved son of the late Richard Schloss and the late Doris Elkins; dear brother of Sharry Whipkey (Robert), Susan Jo Venable (deceased), Jeff Schloss (deceased) (Sandy), Jim Schloss (Joanne), Christine Moore (Tim); cherished uncle to his many beloved nieces and nephews.
Joe leaves a legacy of love and friendship. He was generous, loyal and full of fun. He was quick with a smile and always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. He was an animal lover and leaves behind his beloved dogs Rosie and Zoe. Joe was a proud Vietnam Vet that served in the navy on the U.S.S. Belmont. He worked for 36 years as a surveyor for AEP, with 32 of those years spent underground. He loved spending time with his kids and was very involved in their sports and activities and coached many teams over the years. Joe was proud of his Athens roots and community and was a member of the Elks Lodge 973, American Legion Post 21, AMVETS Post 76, and the V.F.W. Post 3477. He was committed to community service and frequently donated blood and volunteered often with the Elks Club and their annual Christmas basket drive, which he loved. He was an avid sports fan and proudly rooted for Ohio State, the Cleveland Browns, and any team Joe Burrow played for. He was most comfortable outdoors and even invented and perfected the sport of rollerblade basketball. Joe took great pride in his yard and was always outside cutting the grass, chopping wood, firing up the chiminea or throwing tennis balls for his dogs. He loved riding around in his Jeep and found joy in a good conversation over a beer with one of his numerous pals. He will be dearly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known and loved him.
The family would also like to express their appreciation for the kind and loving care that Joe received at the Darst's Private Care Home in Pomeroy and from the Ohio Health Hospice.

So sorry to read of Joe's passing; a truly good guy and lifetime friend. I remember us riding bikes down to Strouds Run to gig for suckers. Joe and I were teammates on the Larry's Dawg House softball team. And, in later years, we enjoyed conversing over beers at the Elks and AmVets. Our condolences go out to the Schloss family. May Joe rest in peace.
