Bradley's Funeral Home & Crematory - Marion Obituary

MARION, VA

Joe Ray Ward, age 64, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the Lewis Gale Medical in Salem, VA.

Joe was born in Marion, VA on May 12, 1961. Known for his outgoing spirit and spontaneous nature, Joe embraced life with energy and joy, living each day to the fullest. He had a big heart and a way of making everyone around him feel seen and loved. Whether he was telling a story or simply sharing a laugh, Joe had a special gift for lighting up any room he was in. A passionate sports fan, he also found a second home at Carrington Place in Wytheville, where he formed lasting friendships with fellow residents, nurses, staff, and everyone who walked through the doors. Above all, Joe deeply treasured the bond he shared with his brothers and especially his baby sister, Kathy, whether enjoying one of her home-cooked meals, running errands together, or just catching up on the phone, their time together meant the world to him.

He is preceded in death by his parents James & Katherine Elizabeth Ward, and brothers Jerry Lee Ward and James “Little Jim” Ward, Jr.

Survivors include his brother John Ward & wife Debbie; sister Kathy Cregger & husband Donnie; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews, along with numerous friends throughout the years.

Private family graveside funeral services will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, VA with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Home of Marion is serving the Ward Family.
