Joe-WHITTINGTON-Obituary

Joe WHITTINGTON

Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Joseph Henry Whittington on November 21, 2012 at Glacier View Lodge.
Joe Whittington was an extraordinary man - a real gentleman, who was devoted to his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Jennie in April 2009, as well as, his brothers Gerald and Fred. Joe is survived and will be dearly missed by his sons Nigel (Karen) and Mark (Kasey) Whittington; daughter Lynne (Dave) Munro; his grandchildren Ashley, Michael, Jillian, Jennifer, Emma and Joe; and his sister, Gracey Stokes of Pennington, England.
Joe was an extremely talented aircraft engineer who served with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm during World War II. He also served with the RCAF for 35 years, retiring as a Major. Joe was passionate about aviation and sailing. He was the Past President of the Comox Flying Club and Courtenay Marina. He was also a member of the Courtenay Air Park Association. Joe extended his sense of humour and generosity to family and strangers alike. In lieu of flowers or donations we would ask that you extend a random act of kindness to someone, because that is what he would have done.
We would also like to thank Jessie Scott for the friendship she provided to Dad during the past two years.
A family gathering will take place in the Summer 2013 to celebrate his life.

This obituary was originally published in the Comox Valley Echo (Courtenay, BC).
