Not sure what to say?

Joel was a great friend to us in Holland during the 1960's. I remember him on the bus ride to Paris, a trip sponsored by The American International School of The Hague, where we attended school together. We sang all the way, with Joel leading the chorus. And I recall that Joel volunteered in helping all the girls in our 9th grade class learn how to slow dance--He was a warm and kind boy, with a wonderful sense of humor. He will always be with me, and with all of us who knew him and loved...

I was in the same class as Joel in The Hague. We were in 8th & 9th grade together. On behalf of my classmates in The Hague, I offer our condolences to the Bauer family. We know that Joel is in a better place.

Bauer Family,
We are so sorry for the loss of your brother/uncle. Although we never met Joel, I'm sure he was a good man if he was anything at all like his brother, Nate.

I can't recall any time Joel didn't have a smile on his face.

I'd know Joel since the third grade. My best memories are playing football with him in front of Lovett Elementary and at the Pilgrim Lutheran. Joel played football the same way he lived life...fearlessly and unrelenting. Whether Joel was on your team or the opposing team, he made you take your game to a higher level. He was a good dude. Rest in peace, Joel

I knew Joel as a young teen while we were both living in The Netherlands and when our families both moved back to Houston. He was a great guy to be around and I am saddened deeply by his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his Mom, Nate, Gwen and Jill and their respective families.

In my time with Joel I knew him as an indomitable spirit living life to its fullest. We were all called to a higher level of engagement in life when Joel entered the scene. But life isn't fair and in the case of Joel, of all people, life took an unexpected turn. We are all the better from having known Joel...
