Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry not to have known of Joel's death closer to his passing. May his memory be a blessing for you--I know it will be for me. He was my college advisor and he kept me from dropping out after my first quarter, assuring me that I could keep up with the brainiacs at the University of Chicago. He was a steadying influence and was funny, intelligent and compassionate. I'm sure he was a wonderful father and therapist. Thanks to the universe for giving him to us.

I am so sad to be too late to say "Thank You" and share another laugh (and maybe a beer) with Joel. He was my college advisor at the U of C from 1973 to 1977 and a good friend throughout. I still quote him often. (E.g., "You college seniors! You think of life in blocks of time---grade school, high school, college, and . . . the rest of your life!"). He was very wise and lots of fun---never condescending to those of us who could not hold a candle to his intellectual candlepower. ...

I just learned of Joel Beck's death. I am a former patient, and I am stunned and saddened to learn of his passing. He was intelligent, incredibly well-read and compassionate. He will be sorely missed.

I just learned of Joel's death from the University of Chicago alumni magazine. I knew Joel when he and a group of friends graduate and undergraduate shared an apartment in Hyde Park. There could be a nicer, brighter nor more unassuming guy.

My condolences to the family.

Professor Beck was my undergraduate thesis adviser at the University of Chicago in the late 1970s. No one could have been more generous with his time, attention, and thoughtfulness. My condolences to his family and friends.

in loving memory

Joel Beck, you had changed my life perspectives by giving me hopes, insights and the great books to read. Thank you. You're a good friend. I will love you and miss you.
And, "We'll always have Paris".

My condolences to the family and the many people who worked with Joel over the years. He will be greatly missed. He was uniquely gifted and generous as a supervisor, scholar, therapist, teacher and writer - I remain deeply indebted to him and will always remember him.

My condolences to the Beck family, it's not easy to loose someone we love dearly. We have this hope for if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus. 1thessalonians 4:14.

Very sorry for your loss. At difficult times such as these, we are told to "rejoice with those who rejoice; and to weep with those who weep" Ro 12:15; ~June New York
