Joel Lee Cook, 70, of Lexington, passed away peacefully at the home of his sister, Lisa Thurman, in Lawrenceburg, KY on October 21, 2025.   Born in Frankfort, KY on November 25, 1954, Joel was the son of the late Gayle Lee Cook and Wilma Harris Cook.


Joel was a graduate of Franklin County High School and a retired IT Department employee of CDP Engineers in Lexington.  Known as a quiet, kind, and caring soul, Joel enjoyed spending time outdoors hiking and his remote-control cars.  An avid guitar player, he enjoyed sharing his talents with his nephew Gabe. Joel loved spending time with his loving family, especially his niece and nephews.


Survivors include his two sisters, Connie (Kevin) Lomax of San Antonio, TX and Lisa (Greg) Thurman of Lawrenceburg; four nephews, one niece, five great nephews, and one great niece; and a special friend, Mary Dean Vertuca of Lexington.


Cremation was chosen.  No public services will be held.  Burial of Joel’s cremains will be in the Frankfort Cemetery.

Connie and Lisa , I am sorry to hear of Joel’s passing. We were friends since first grade and grew up in Thorn Hill together. I remember him being a very good artist.
RIP Joel

I worked with Joel for several years at CDP. We had many laughs and conversations. He was a true and trusted friend. I am saddened for his passing but he has left lasting memories that I and so many others will always cherish. My condolences to his family and Mary Dean.

Friend since high school, shared many a laugh together. Godspeed my friend.

A great friend from 7th grade on! Spent many of days with Joel. Rented a house together and worked together for many years. So sad you hear!

Joel had a wry wit and a playful demeanor. I will remember your laughter, generosity, and the positive impact you made on all of us. Rest in peace, Joel. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Joel was always very helpful and easy to talk to, especially about music. I enjoyed working with him and our conversations. My condolences to the family.
