Read MoreI'm very sorry to be so late. I remember Joel from St. John's in Lynchburg in the 1980s, where we were cross-street neighbors on Norfolk Avenue. Besides being a wonderful rector, he was a kind and generous neighbor to a then-single family practice resident. Kate and I owe much of our lifelong love of Labrador retrievers to Joel and his dog, Sue. Peace and grace be with you all!

Sept. 7, 2014. Joel and Mary Beth graciously agreed to come up to DeBordieu, SC to serve as the celebrant for my son's wedding. It was a joyous occasion and he was in fine form. Carter (my son) was Joel's first baptism at St. John's in Lynchburg, and Joel had only been at work a few days as the new Rector of St. John's when he popped in to the hospital on June 7 to say a prayer over our first child (Carter) and our family. The circle of life. Godspeed Joel. You will be missed by many.
