Joel Francis Laubenthal, son of Donald and Carolyne (Kirkwood) Laubenthal, was born March 26, 1959 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  He began his education in Cylinder and then he attended Junior High and High School in Emmetsburg, graduating in 1977.  While attending school in Cylinder, Joel was a Cub Scout and played Little League baseball.

Following graduation Joel entered the United States Navy, being inducted on May 31, 1977.  After serving for four years he was honorably discharged on May 29, 1981.

Joel was employed at Universal in Algona and later went to work at Snap-On in Algona until he retired in March 2025, due to health issues.

Joel loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and trapping.  He also enjoyed reading westerns and  fiction books.

Joel passed away Friday, July 18, 2025 at his sister’s home in Ruthven, Iowa at the age of 66.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Carolyne Laubenthal and a sister, Pat Paskert.

He is survived by his daughter,  Mandy Voyek of Story City, Iowa; grandchildren, Sawyer and Avery; a brother, Rich (Pat) Laubenthal of Whittemore, Iowa; sisters, Sarah (Cliff) Steffen of Ruthven, Iowa, Donna (Mike) Faulkingham of Maine and Susan Stearns of Emmetsburg, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
