Joel was an upstanding man. He was always willing to help out, especially with my dad, Joe Costello, who was the memorial services chair from many years. Joel was always there to help dad and me as well when I hosted the Forrestal reunion in 2010. Joel will be remembered as one of the great guys. My condolences to the family. I know he and dad are up there sharing a cold beer now.

Joel has been a guest and friend of mine for almost 12 years. He has shared so many of his memories and stories with me throughout the years...as well as jokes. He was a very special person to everyone and I will miss him dearly. Thank you for the laughs, the stories, the advice and the all the unnecessary pastries I´ve consumed because of you. You will always have a place in my heart.

My father, Rick Bullock, is also a US Navy veteran having served on the Forrestal. We met Joel through the USS Forrestal Association. When seeing him on Memorial Day Weekends, Veteran's Day or July 29 - the anniversary of the Forrestal Fire - he was always so incredibly kind. My parents became friends with him and he was so nice to my Uncle Steve - dad's brother-in-law with Downs Syndrome. Uncle Steve was always at the Forrestal remembrances with my parents.
