I've personally had the joy of knowing Joel for only a couple years, and during that time, I found him to be a very warm and kind man. I watched firsthand how personable he was with customers, and it was easy to see what made the man so successful. My condolences to Joel's family and friends.

I've known Joel since I was a kid . He was one of the sweetest and most deeply caring people I've ever known, a great friend to my family for over 50 years, and one of my mother's dearest friends for all that time. Though I saw him only occasionally after I moved to the west coast many years ago, he was often in my thoughts and heart, where he will remain the rest of my life. My deepest condolences and love go out to all of Joel's family. He will be irreplaceably missed.

Mr. Perlmutter gave me job nearly 45 years ago at his store in Toms River, despite being a scrawny teenager, who could hardly move a pallet jack. It was a great experience which developed a work ethic that I hold to this day. I am grateful to him for providing me that opportunity.
My sincere condolences to the Perlmutter family.
