Not sure what to say?

There are so many memories to share about Joel it is hard to pick just one...so this may be long. I loved him dearly and always will. I will never forget the first time he took me fishing and I caught a 27" Red fish...he was so proud of his little city girl or so he called me! I remember all the camping trips to Concan with the window unit zipped up in the tent to help me sleep better at night. All the Elvis on Speed shows that we went to...every time they played...he just had to be there....

Joel was like a son to my husband and I. He house sat for us and took care of my animals, they all loved him. Joel took our pictures for our wedding invitations and always told me we should get married right away because life was short and we were lucky. I will miss him everyday. We love you Joel.......Carolyn and Randy West

Joel was a dear friend and we shared a ton of memories. We all knew he was around because of the laughter in the room. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.

I was so sorry to hear the news about Joel. Our thoughts and prayers are with him & his family. Everyone's entries so far have been so accurate he was the funniest person I ever met. Joel went on many family vacations and was so much fun. He could make a 12 hour car ride seem like 2 hours with his jokes, songs, and stories. I never met anyone in my life that could listen to RUSH so much... He will be greatly missed, he was so special. Again our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Joel became my friend just a few years ago. I was immediately taken by his kind heart and great sense of humor. He was always there when I needed him and was always a true friend. I will miss you Joel. You will always live on in my memories.

We are saddened by the passing of Joel and will always remember the laughter he brought to our home and the skiing trips together. Our hearts and prayers are with Joel and his family.

I was new to Portland in 7th grade and it was hard making friends. But that year, Joel asked me to my first school dance.

At the time, I was taller than him, insecure and felt totally awkward. When we danced, he just smiled and told me how soft my hands felt.

That sums up Joel. The kind of person who saw past the differences. The person who welcomed everyone into his circle of friends. He had a natural ability to make those around him feel happy and comfortable.

I'm so...

I went to High School with Joel and will always remember his upbeat attitude and easy going spirit. His smile would light up a room along with his friendly personality. My heart goes out to all.

I didn't know Joel as well as I would have liked to, but I am proud and privileged to have called him a friend. He was warm and funny and could make a virtual stranger feel like a long time friend. I don't think I was ever around Joel without laughing until my sides hurt! My thoughts and prayers are with his family. He will be truly missed.
