Not sure what to say?

Joel was the best disciplinary Vice-Principal I ever worked with. The kids loved him no matter what he had to do with them. All of us at Roosevelt respected and loved him.

Mr. Sappenfield as I knew him at Franklin in the late 50's who was movie star good looking and the most likeable guy you would want to know. I began my school career in 1948 at Richmond Grade School at which time his mother was teaching first grade. They were both lovely people.

Joel was such a great friend to so many. We respected him as a "straight shooter"and a strong , masculine and powerful collegue who was always caring, dependable and able. His very important presence made any situation better. Over the years, as we worked together ,I was honored to be his friend. I will always remember him with sincere warmth. I am so sorry for your loss.

Joel was a special friend during our many years spent together with the Portland Public Schools. May God bless you his family members with many beautiful memories of his life.

Men like Mr. Sappenfield, Eugene Desylvia, Kevin Bernard, Joe Courtney, Jim Winters, Stan Bozich and Dan Rom were truly a cut above in their profession. Their sincere efforts for the "Good" of the young people of that area will not be forgotten. My heart felt condolences go out to his entire family. I would like them to know that there...
