Joel Spector

It has been a year since my good friend and best man Joel died. I miss him and his sense of humor.

As a young aspiring illustrator nearly 25 years ago I got to spend a year as Joel's assistant, where he trusted me to help him with his illustrations and taught me that the most electric colors exist in shadows. He made me organize his collection of a zillion pastels and I learned about the nuances of color. He exposed me, at an early age, to what it takes to be a self-sufficient professional artist.
