On this anniversary of Joellesdeath I remember the many therapy sessions I had with her and the many things I learned from her. What stands out most was her authenticity and caring manner.
More than anything it was these qualities that contributed to my self acceptance and general progress. It is really true that we can only learn, heal, and change when we genuinely feel that another cares about our suffering. Joell was one of a kind and will always hold a place in my heart.

I remember Joell fondly from Camp Hancock. I only knew her those two weeks, but I've never forgotten how much fun she was to be around. The only words I can find are inadequate, but she was an amazing person, intelligent, quick to see the absurd side of things, magic to be with.

Joell was the most wonderful, loving and generous friend and godmother to one of my sons one could wish for. She was the best friend in my entire life and I miss her dearly. My son and I hope to dedicate a bench to her in the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in the next few months where people can sit and smile with fond memories of this amazing woman and human being.

Joell. Such a lively mind, such a bright spirit, such a boundless heart. Her smile lit the sun. We met our first week in Mills Hall. She was ripping an offending ornament from a garment prior to our first mixer. I had just done the same-and we laughed uproariously and became friends. I loved her lively mind and her generous heart. We laughed a lot and argued even more-or perhaps the reverse. We met again in Berkeley in the 1990's. My children adored her. I am so very grateful that...

What a shock to find out my best friend from Laurelhurst passed away last Feb. I think of her so often and the fun times we had together and the projects we did together in 6th grade. I have always been sorry we didn't stay in contact. Last year I searched for Joell's name on the internet and found she was living in Ariel, Wa.,her family's lake home ( and how I loved our time there!). So tonight I was looking again for her and can hardly believe she is gone. My time with her and her Mom...

I was heartbroken to hear about Joell's passing. I'll never forget all the wonderful times I spent with Joell and her family -at their house, at my house, and at the lake. What joys we had growing up together. He infectious smile, her sense of humor, he straight talk and her solid values all helped me to become the person I am today. Thank you Joell. You are much missed. And thank you Selma and Milton. I often remember how you inspired me to reach for the stars. I am so sorry for your...
