Rest in peace

Joey, I will never forget You Brother, as that saying goes, YOU WERE ONE OF THE BEST... I got a chance to meet You many years ago at a club called STEAMERS in Fullerton , CA , where You played a number of times, I remember You using a marker I had, to sign one of the CD's I had purchased from you, which I told You to keep the marker as a gift, because it was Christmas time, during that occasion I saw You. We had a laugh about that, and You played a great show up to closing. The last time I...

Great musician. You will be truly missed. Your music will always live on.

One of my favorite musicians of all time; the first time I heard him play was on a Christmas compilation, Santa Claus is coming to town. I said to myself "who is this"? Followed him every since then, saw him live in Minneapolis, I have 2 signed cd's of his, and lately have been listening to them a lot. I am so sad and shook up by his death. Rest in peace dear Joey, and thank-you

God bless you and your family, you are in our prayers.Dennis and Sheila Montone

Man I couldn’t believe what I saw and read when it came across my phone. I loved this guy and although I never got to meet him, me and my late father were huge fans of his. We’d been listening to him since he was like 17, when he came out with his first album. I love Papa John also, he’s another one of my favorite Hammond B3 players. This one really hurts. Everybody I grew up listening to including my idol Grover Washington Jr is gone. I was looking for Joey to continue to carry the torch but...

What can I say about one of the greatest musicians of all time. Joey was a beautiful cat, I had the opportunity to meet and chat with him a few times. Last year Joey was on my show Jazz talk and I interviewed him. Always friendly and up beat, Joey was one of the greatest musicians I have ever come across. I recently spent some time with him at NAMM this past June and embraced him as soon as I saw him. Rest well brother, you will be missed.

One of the BEST Organist I ever got a chance to meet, and hear ... We deeply miss You, but I know the Jazz stage in heaven will be Your new, with your protegee Jimmy Smith... GOD BLESS...

I met Joey at the Jazz Showcase years ago in Chicago. We knew his Chicago organ tech Harvey Olson. Joey blew a speaker in one of his Leslie's warming up that afternoon so we were helping Harv swap the speaker for the show that night. Joey comes over, greets us all, kids with Harv a bit to put in a "new" speaker this time...Then stops back a bit later to warm up, tears through a few solos and gives Harv the thumbs up Leslie is good to go. He then sees us sitting to the side of the stage,...
