Johanna R. Sboro, age 91, passed away peacefully at the Samaritan Summit Village, where she was a resident, on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, with family by her side.
She was born on June 24,1927 in Watertown and was the youngest and last surviving child of Carmen and Sarah Cavallario. Johanna graduated from Watertown High School. She was married to Arthur A. Sboro on June 22, 1947 with Monsignor Claude F. Sechi officiating at St. Anthony's Church, where she was a parishioner for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Sboro owned and operated Art's Jug Restaurant in Watertown for more than forty years. Johanna worked tirelessly creating and serving pizza and homemade Italian dishes, many of which are still offered there today. She instilled her strong work ethic in her children and grandchildren. Her son, daughter and grandchildren carry on the family tradition by owning and operating various local restaurants; Art's Jug & Sboro's in Watertown, Attilios and Channelside in Clayton and Foxy's In Fishers Landing.
Johanna and her husband enjoyed traveling and took many trips with their friends. They retired in 1988 to Cape Coral, Florida where Johanna was a parishioner of St. Andrews Church and a member of the Cape Coral Country Club where she spent much time being outdoors in the warm weather and Florida sunshine. Johanna's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved cooking for people and often treated family, friends and visitors to one of her Italian feasts.
Left to honor and remember her are Johanna's three children; her daughter Cynthia Beattie, Clayton; two sons Arthur V. (Heather) Sboro, Estero, FL, Steven (Liz) Sboro, Sackets Harbor, her eleven grandchildren, Michele (Aaron) Capone, Sarah (Chris) Leone, Peter (Molly) Beattie, Paul (Donna) Beattie, Monica Sboro, Melissa (Dustin) Gentile, Erika (Jacob) Raymond, Arthur (Courtney) Sboro, Maria Sboro (Zach Gullo), Michael Sboro (Whitney Hallett) and Meghan Sboro, thirteen great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Connie Cavallario, Alex Bay, Adrianna Cavallario and Josephine Masiello, Watertown, Marie (Casmir) LoVerde, Fort Myers, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sboro was predeceased by her husband, Arthur A . Sboro on December 23, 2004; seven brothers, Peter, Anthony, Vincent, Michael, Joseph, Samuel and Frank Cavallario, a sister, Mary Coleman; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Sboro, a son-in-law, Bruce Beattie, and a great grandson, Markus Gentile.
The funeral mass for Mrs. Sboro will be held on her birthday, Monday, June 24th at twelve noon at St. Anthony's Church, Watertown. The burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are with Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Church or a charity of your choice.

To Artie, Steve, Cindy, & family,
I had some great conversations with your mom! That generation of hard workers, loyal, respected people is getting smaller and smaller. The icons of Watertown for sure!
Rest in Peace Johanna,
