Read MoreFacebook flagged Johanna´s birthday to me today. I have thought of her often lately and am sad to learn she passed shortly before my own father, another scholar of History, did in 2022. I worked with her on a manuscript a few years ago. I always looked forward to our visits. There was much laughter. I was so hoping I could wish her happy birthday today. I´m glad our paths crossed.

Johanna liked to laugh. She was good at working with people. She had a keen mind and we had many interesting discussions over the years (starting way back in graduate school).

I remember Johanna from the 1960s at UA. We drank a lot of coffee at the Woods Hall quad. Sorry to have lost touch over the years. I enjoyed watching her career over the years in Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. Rest In Peace, my friend.
